About:
Puerto Peñasco boasts numerous shopping destinations that cater to tourists. In the 1980s, and still today, Rodeo Drive, also known as Shacks Fifth Avenue, was the go-to spot for shopping.
History of Rodeo Drive:
Originally, Rodeo Drive was a dirt road lined with shops on both sides. During Thanksgiving weekends, parking was a challenge, often resulting in cars getting stuck. However, locals and Americans alike always lent a helping hand. Many of the stores are still operated by the same families to this day.
Modernization:
In recent years, the city opted to modernize the mall by paving the street, installing sidewalks, and adding streetlights. While these improvements were necessary, some argue that they detracted from the mall’s original charm. Nevertheless, the quality of the shops remains top-notch.
Shopping at Rodeo Drive:
Rodeo Drive offers a wide array of merchandise, including Talavera pottery, glassware, leather goods, silver jewelry, and apparel.
- Juan Carlos, a renowned silver jewelry vendor, still sells high-quality pieces at his shop near the entrance. His family also operates stalls on the beach and in front of Playa Bonita.
- The central store specializes in pottery and glassware, offering sets of barware at a fraction of the cost compared to the United States.
- Su Casa, located between two palm trees, offers upscale products from across Mexico and plans to add furniture to its offerings soon.
- Gloria’s shop features stunning sea shell decorations, including Christmas tree-shaped ornaments, perfect for sprucing up your home or condo.
- Visitors can also find hand-embroidered tablecloths, ladies’ tops and dresses, paintings from local artists, and a vast selection of Talavera dishes and pottery.
Mariachi and Tequila on Rodeo Drive:
After a day of shopping, treat yourself to a delicious meal and refreshing drinks at Mariachi and Tequila. Indulge in authentic Mexican cuisine and handcrafted Margaritas, renowned for their exceptional flavor and presentation. The restaurant’s hand-carved leather chairs are crafted just a few doors down in the mall.
